About Kri

Kri Yamada is a visual artist, writer, facilitator and global fashion creative. She walks this incarnation as a queer, disabled and neuroemergent edge-walker of mixed Japanese and European ascent. Her creative praxis explores themes of identity, spirit, ecologies of relation and non-linear time as invitations to deeper meaning, connection and belonging. Yamada’s work is grounded in the paradox of re-integrating fragmented pieces of self, while releasing the notion of “self” altogether.

Her work is included in The Remembrance Gallery on the grounds of the former Puyallup Assembly Center incarceration site and the Washington State Queer Poetry Anthology. Kri is an alumna of the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York) summa cum laude, Polimoda (Italy) and the University of Nicosia (Cyprus). She’s been seen in Marie Claire, W, Elle UK, VEVO and others.

Kri is also a certified coach with Wholebeing Institute and graduate of the first Embodied Social Justice Program co-directed by Rev. angel Kyodo Williams at The Embody Lab, further trained in Somatic Sex Education at the ISSSE. She is a member of the Tsuru for Solidarity Healing Arts Collective/Healing Justice Campaign, with a history of work in other local organizations including the IRC and Young Women Empowered’s API Solidarity Group. Her work abroad includes co-facilitating intensive 9-day healing retreats with Shipibo Curandera/os and offering integration coaching in the Peruvian Amazon. A humble student of the Dharma whose yoga is deeply rooted in devotion, Kri supports space for meditation and chanting from time to time.
